TOM HENEGAR
MR. HENEGAR WAS BORN AND RAISED IN JELLICO, TENNESSEE. HE GRADUATED FROM BERA COLLEGE FOUNDATION SCHOOL IN BERA, KENTUCKY IN 1955.
MR. HENEGAR ARRIVED IN NEW HAVEN IN SEPTEMBER 1966 AFTER GRADUATING FROM CUMBERLAND COLLEGE WITH A B.A. IN ENGLISH. HE TAUGHT ENGLISH IN HIGH SCHOOL GRADES 9-12, SPONSORED CLASSES, PRODUCED JUNIOR-SENIOR THEATER PRESENTATIONS AND COACHED THE DRAMA-DEBATE CLASSES. AS A DEBATE TEAM, THE STUDENTS WON MOST OF THE MATCHES.
MR. HENEGAR COACHED FOOTBALL, BOTH VARSITY AND JUNIOR VARSITY JUNIOR HIGH TRACK AND JUNIOR HIGH BOYS BASKETBALL DURING HIS 30 YEARS AT NEW HAVEN. HE BECAME THE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR IN 1985 AND ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL THE FOLLOWING YEAR. EVEN WITH THE DUTIES AS A.D. AND ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL, MR. HENEGAR REMAINED A CLASSROOM TEACHER UNTIL HIS RETIREMENT IN 1995.
MR. HENEGAR RETIRED FROM THE MILITARY IN 1993. HE REMAINED ACTIVE IN NEW HAVEN SCHOOLS AS A MENTOR TEACHER AND A MEMBER OF THE BOND OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE.
