ROGER TAVA
ROGER BEGAN TEACHING AND COACHING AT NEW HAVEN HIGH SCHOOL IN 1973. HE COMMITTED TO COACHING BOTH THE GIRLS AND BOYS PROGRAMS AND WAS A FIXTURE IN BOTH PROGRAMS FOR OVER TWO DECADES. IN HIS THIRTY PLUS YEARS OF COACHING HE AMASSED 451 WINS AND WAS CHOSEN SOUTHERN THUMB ASSOCIATION COACH OF THE YEAR IN 1973-1974 AND 1990-1991. ROGER WAS RECENTLY INDUCTED IN THE MICHIGAN HIGH SCHOOL COACHES ASSOCIATION HALL OF FAME.
ROGER WAS JUST AS DEDICATED AS A TEACHER. ALONG WITH FELLOW INDUCTEE DUKE BRYNER, HE HELPED ORGANIZE TRIPS TO CHICAGO, WASHINGTON D.C., BOSTON AND NEW YORK. HE ALSO HELPED ORGANIZE THE POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT PROGRAM AND WAS A VERY ACTIVE MEMBER IN OUR HOMECOMING FESTIVITIES.
ROGER RETIRED FROM TEACHING AND COACHING IN JUNE OF 2000 AND WE APPRECIATE ALL THE TIME AND ENERGY HE CONTRIBUTED TO THE NEW HAVE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT, AND THE STUDENT ATHLETES OF NEW HAVEN HIGH SCHOOL.
