GORDON LEE

"GORDIE"

GORDON LEE ATTENDED NEW HAVEN HIGH SCHOOL FROM 1962 TO 1966. HE WAS AN AMAZING ATHLETE WHO LETTERED IN ALL VARSITY SPORTS IN HIS VERY FIRST YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL. STARTING OUT ON JUNIOR VARSITY FOOTBALL IN HIS FRESHMAN YEAR. GORDON CAUGHT 3 TOUCHDOWN PASSES IN THE FIRST GAME. THE NEXT WEEK HE WAS MOVED UP TO VARSITY WHERE HE STAYED ALL 4 YEARS. HE STARTED WITH THE TIGHT END POSITION WHERE HE CAUGHT NUMEROUS TOUCHDOWNS. GORDON MADE 1ST TEAM ALL-LEAGUE AS A TIGHT END FOR 3 YEARS. IN HIS JUNIOR YEAR HE MADE 2ND TEAM ALL-STATE. HE ALSO KICKED THE MOST POINTS AFTER TOUCHDOWNS IN ONE GAME FOR THE 63/64 YEAR.

GORDON ALSO MADE THE BASKETBALL TEAM IN HIS FRESHMAN YEAR AND WAS REPEAT 1ST TEAM GUARD. A PURE JUMP SHOOTER, HE MADE 1ST TEAM ALL-MACOMB COUNTY AND ALL REGIONAL IN 1966.

IN TRACK AND FIELD, GORDON WAS THE FIRST NEW ATHLETE IN THE HIGH JUMP TO CLEAR 6 FEET AND HELD THE RECORD FOR 7 YEARS. HE ALSO HELD THE LEAGUE RECORD IN THE HIGH  HURDLES AND CONTROLLED THE BLUE WATER AREA HIS SENIOR YEAR. IN THE HIGH AND LOW HURDLES HE HELD THE SCHOOL RECORD FOR 7 YEARS AS WELL UNTIL DON SIMS FINALLY CAME ALONG AND BROKE IT. HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE WINNING TEAM IN THE 1 MILE RELAY. PARTICIPATING ING THE MARYSVILLE, PERSHING AND ALBION RELAYS AWARDED HIM OVER 40 MEDALS DURING HIS 4 YEARS IN TRACK. HE ALSO PARTICIPATED IN THE MANSFIELD, OHIO RELAYS ALL 4 YEARS. 

GORDON WAS ON THE BASEBALL TEAM ALL 4 YEARS PLAYING A NUMBER OF POSITIONS. HE WON TWO BATTING TITLES AND PLACED SECOND TWICE.  DURING THE 63/64 SEASON HE PLAYED ON AN UNDEFEATED LEAGUE TEAM. IN 1966 HE TIED FOR ATHLETE OF THE YEAR WITH TEAM MATE, RICHARD CHENAULT.

AFTER GRADUATING, GORDON WENT ON TO CENTRAL MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY WHERE HE PLAYED FOOTBALL FOR THE 1966 SEASON. AFTER ONE SEASON HE SWITCHED TO MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY AND PLAYED BASEBALL.
