DR. BETTY SHERMAN YOUNBLOOD

BETTY SHERMAN YOUNGBLOOD IS A 1962 NEW HAVEN HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE. WHILE AT NEW HAVEN HIGH SCHOOL BETTY PARTICIPATED IN G.A.L., BASKETBALL, TRACK, GLEE CLUB, SENIOR PLAY, JUNIOR PLAY, FORENSICS, DEBATE, FUTURE TEACHERS CLUB, AND SCIENCE CLUB.

BETTY IS CURRENTLY THE PRESIDENT OF LAKE SUPERIOR STATE UNIVERSITY. PREVIOUSLY, YOUNGBLOOD WAS PRESIDENT OF WESTERN OREGON UNIVERSITY IN MONMOUTH, OREGON (1995-2002), AND CHANCELLOR AT THE UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-SUPERIOR (1991-1995).

BETTY YOUNGBLOOD IS A SPECIALIST IN COMPARATIVE GOVERNMENTS AND SOUTH ASIAN POLITICS. SHE HAS TRAVELED EXTENSIVELY IN SOUTH ASIA, WRITTEN SEVERAL PUBLICATIONS AND HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN A VARIETY OF ACTIVITIES INVOLVING THE U.S. AND INDIAN GOVERNMENTS. SHE HAS RECEIVED SEVERAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS TO STUDY IN NORTHWESTERN INDIA IN THE STATE OF HARYANA AND PUNJAB.

BETTY SHERMAN YOUNGBLOOD EARNED A BACHELOR OF ARTS DEGREE IN SOUTH ASIAN AREA STUDIES AND POLITICAL SCIENCE AT OAKLAND UNIVERSITY IN ROCHESTER, MICHIGAN IN 1965. SHE DID HER GRADUATE WORK AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA, EARNING A MASTER OF ARTS DEGREE IN SOUTH ASIAN STUDIES IN 1966 AND A PHD. IN POLITICAL SCIENCE IN 1970.

SHE SERVES IN ROTARY AND ON THE LOCAL BOARDS OF SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS INCLUDING THE UNITED WAY, SALVATION ARMY, MARCH OF DIMES, AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY, AND THE YMCA, PLUS HOSPITAL AND CHAMBER OF COMMERCE BOARDS IN THE COMMUNITIES IN WHICH SHE HAS LIVED.

BETTY HAS BEEN MARRIED FOR 37 YEARS TO RALPH YOUNGBLOOD WHO PASSED AWAY THIS YEAR. BETTY AND RALPH HAVE ONE SON, DAVE, DAUGHTER-IN-LAW JESSICA ND TWO GRANDCHILDREN, GEORGIA AND GRACIE.
