ED WUESTENBERG
MR. ED WUESTENBERG, A 1951 GRADUATE OF NEW HAVEN HIGH SCHOOL, IS BEING INDUCTED INTO NEW HAVEN’S ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME.
WHILE AT NEW HAVEN HIGH SCHOOL HE EARNED HONORS IN 1947-48 AS BASEBALL CHAMPS PLAYING 3RD BASE. IN 1948-49, ALL STAR BASKETBALL LITTLE 7 AND IN 1949-50 FOOTBALL ALL STAR LITTLE 7. HE ALSO EARNED HONORS AS ALL STATE BLUE WATER AREA BASKETBALL-ALL STAR LITTLE 7, ALL COUNTY IN BASKETBALL. IN FOOTBALL HE WAS ALL STAR LITTLE 7, ALL STAR BLUE WATER AREA AND 3RD TEAM ALL STATE. HE RECEIVED A FULL RIDE TO WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY, WHERE HE PLAYED DEFENSIVE END. HE WAS DRAFTED INTO THE ARMY IN 1954. AFTER SERVING HIS TERM IN THE MILITARY HE CAME HOME AND ATTENDED EASTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY 1957-1959.
HE WAS A COACH AT ARMADA HIGH SCHOOL FROM 1959-1997, WHERE HE EARNED 12 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS, 1 BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP, AND 8 JUNIOR HIGH FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS. HE WAS ELECTED “COACH OF THE YEAR” IN EACH FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP AND “REGIONAL COACH OF THE YEAR” 8 TIMES AND AREA “COACH OF THE YEAR” SIX TIMES.
HIS ACHIEVEMENTS INCLUDED BEING EASTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY “COACH OF THE YEAR” IN 1981, MICHIGAN FOOTBALL COACHES “HALL OF FAME” IN 1987, MICHIGAN HIGH SCHOOL COACH COACHES “HALL OF FAME” IN 1988 AND “MACOMB COUNTY FOOTBALL COACHES HALL OF FAME” IN 1990. IT IS WITH GREAT PLEASURE THAT YOU HAVE RECEIVED THIS AWARD OF BEING INDUCTED INTO THE “NEW HAVEN ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME”.
MR. ED WUESTENBERG ALSO BELONGS TO MANY COMMUNITY SERVICE CLUBS. HE IS A LIFETIME MEMBER OF THE ARMADA LIONS CLUB WHERE HE SERVED AS PRESIDENT TWO TERMS, THE ARMADA AMVETS, SERVING AS PRESIDENT ONE TERM, AMERICAN LEGION, LOYAL ORDER OF MOOSE CLUB AND AS AN ATHLETIC DIRECTOR FROM 1964 TO 1989.
MR. ED WUESTENBERG LIVES WITH HIS WIFE IRMA, WHO IS ALSO A GRADUATE FROM NEW HAVEN. THEY ARE PARENTS TO DAUGHTER, JOELLEN, AND SON MARK.
