FILMORE WALKER

FILMORE WALKER IS ONE ON THE BEST BASKETBALL PLAYERS AND STUDENT-ATHLETES IN THE HISTORY OF NEW HAVEN HIGH SCHOOL.

ACADEMICALLY, FILMORE EARNED THE HONOR OF BEING THE CLASS OF 1983 VALEDICTORIAN. DURING HIS SENIOR YEAR, FILMORE WAS THE VICE-PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY, RECEIVED THE UNITED STATE ARMY RESERVE NATIONAL SCHOLAR ATHLETIC AWARD AND EARNED ALL AMERICAN ACADEMIC HONORS. HE ALSO SERVED AS THE VARSITY CLUB PRESIDENT.

DURING HIS BASKETBALL CAREER, NEW HAVEN WON THREE CONSECUTIVE STA CHAMPIONSHIPS, WINNING THE MHSAA DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP HIS JUNIOR YEAR AND GOING UNDEFEATED WITH A RECORD OF 14-0 DURING HIS SENIOR YEAR. HIS INDIVIDUAL ACCOLADES ARE NUMEROUS. FILMORE EARNED ALL STA THREE YEARS, MOST VALUABLE PLAYER OF THE STA THREE YEARS, TIMES HERALD ALL BLUE WATER AREA THREE YEARS, ALL MACOMB COUNTY THREE YEARS, AND ALL MACOMB DREAM TEAM TWO YEARS. HE EARNED UPI AND AP ALL STATE IN BOTH HIS JUNIOR AND SENIOR YEARS AND EARNED THE HIGHEST HONOR BY BEING NAMED THE MVP OF MACOMB COUNTY IN 1983. HE PLAYED IN THE MICHIGAN HIGH SCHOOL ALL STAR GAME IN JUNE OF 1983.
FILMORE CONTINUED HIS ACADEMIC AND ATHLETIC CAREER BY EARNING A SCHOLARSHIP TO MICHIGAN TECH UNIVERSITY. HE WAS A STARTER ALL FOUR YEARS WHILE AT MTU, EARNING THE ROLE OF TEAM CAPTAIN HIS JUNIOR AND SENIOR YEAR. AT THE CONCLUSION OF HIS ATHLETIC CAREER AT TECH, HE BROKE CAREER RECORD MARKS IN STEALS AND ASSISTS. FILMORE GRADUATED WITH A BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING IN NOVEMBER OF 1987.

FILMORE AND HIS WIFE NANCY OF 13 YEARS HAVE THREE BOYS, FILMORE IV, ANDREW DAVID, AND DARIUS THANDO. THEY CURRENTLY LIVE IN SOUTH AFRICA..
