ROBERT CHURCHILL

BOB GREW UP IN NEW HAVEN, MICHIGAN, SON OF CLARENCE AND FAIREE CHURCHILL. HE SPENT HIS ENTIRE CHILDHOOD ATTENDING NEW HAVEN COMMUNITY SCHOOLS GRADES K-12. BOB GRADUATED FROM NEW HAVEN HIGH SCHOOL IN 1970.

BOB WAS INVOLVED IN ATHLETICS AT NEW HAVEN AS AN ACCOMPLISHED ATHLETE AND LATER AS COACH. YOU CAN SPOT BOB IN THE STANDS AT ATHLETIC EVENTS AS A FAN WHO IS STILL ENTHUSIASTIC AND SUPPORTIVE OF ALL THE PROGRAMS AT NEW HAVEN HIGH SCHOOL.

BOB WAS A STELLAR STUDENT-ATHLETE FOR THE NEW HAVEN ROCKETS. HE EARNED 4 VARSITY LETTERS IN TRACK, 3 VARSITY LETTERS IN FOOTBALL AND 2 IN BASKETBALL. HE WAS A MEMBER OF CHAMPIONSHIP TEAMS IN ALL THREE SPORTS HE LETTERED IN.

IN FOOTBALL HE STARTED AS A SOPHOMORE AND WAS A MEMBER OF THE SOUTHERN THUMB ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS OF 1967. HE ALSO LETTERED FOR THE VARSITY CHAMPIONSHIP TEAMS IN BASKETBALL AND TRACK. BASKETBALL WON BOTH THE STA AND MHSAA DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP IN 1968-69, AND TRACK WON BOTH THE STA CHAMPIONSHIP AND MHSAA REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. HE CONTINUED HIS CHAMPIONSHIP RUN AS A SENIOR WITH A STA CHAMPIONSHIP IN BASKETBALL. BOB EARNED INDIVIDUAL HONORS WITH A MEMBERSHIP ON THE ALL BLUE WATER AND STA ALL-STAR TEAMS.

HE IMMEDIATELY STARTED COACHING AFTER HIGH SCHOOL. HE HELPED DEVELOP THE CHAMPIONSHIP TRACK TEAMS OF THE 1970’S, LED BY DUKE BRYNER, AND WAS AN ASSISTANT COACH FOR NEW HAVEN’S SUCCESSFUL BASKETBALL PROGRAM. COACH CHURCHILL WAS VERY ACTIVE IN THE NEW HAVEN ATHLETIC BOOSTER CLUB. HE SPEARHEADED THE PURCHASE OF THE FIRST VIDEO CAMERA FOR NEW HAVEN ATHLETIC PROGRAMS, HELPED BUILD THE TRACK RECORD BOARDS, AND IN THE PLANNING OF THE VERY SUCCESSFUL BOOSTER CLUB EVENT “ALMOST ANYTHING GOES”.

BOB WORKS FOR THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY. HE AND HIS WIFE DIANE AND SON BRAD LIVE IN SHELBY TOWNSHIP. NEW HAVEN COMMUNITY SCHOOLS THANKS BOB FOR HIS EFFORTS, BOTH AS A DEDICATED ATHLETE AND COACH.
