JOSEPH BARNETT

Mr. Barnett was born and raised in Hazard, Kentucky and graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 1962. He served two years in the U.S. Army and two years in the Active Army Reserves.

Mr. Barnett came to New Haven in 1965 as a business education teacher and junior high coach. His teaching career included adult education, JTPA, and summer recreation. His coaching duties encompassed junior high basketball, junior varsity basketball and football,and junior varsity track. During this time he received many Southern Thumb Association League awards. In 1970-71 school year, Mr. Barnett was appointed the high school principal and athletic director.His tenure as principal spanned 22 years and that of the athletic director six years before his retirement in 1992.

After retiring from New Haven Community Schools, Mr. Barnett worked in real estate until 1998. He presently works at Pat Moran Oldsmobile in Rochester Hills.

In 1995, Mr. Barnett was inducted into the Michigan Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
