WARD YOUNG
WARD GRADUATED IN 1951 FROM SPRING ARBOR JUNIOR COLLEGE. WHILE THERE HE PARTICIPATED IN BASEBALL, TRACK AND BASKETBALL. HE THEN GRADUATED FROM EASTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY WITH A BACHELOR OF SCIENCE DEGREE IN 1955. HIS MASTERS DEGREE IN COUNSELING AND GUIDANCE IN 1964.
MR. YOUNG WAS AN ASSISTANT FOOTBALL AND BASKETBALL COACH AT ALGONAC HIGH SCHOOL FOR THREE YEARS.
IN 1958 HE WAS HIRED AT NEW HAVEN COMMUNITY SCHOOLS AS A TEACHER AND COACH. HE WAS THE HEAD FOOTBALL COACH FOR 18 YEARS AND WON 4 LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS. HE WAS ALSO THE HEAD BASEBALL COACH FOR 10 YEARS AND WON 5 LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS. IN ADDITION, HE COACHED IN THE CAPACITY OF GIRLS SOFTBALL COACH AND ASSISTANT BASKETBALL COACH.
IN 1997 THE FOOTBALL FIELD WAS NAMED "WARD E. YOUNG STADIUM" IN HIS HONOR. WARD SERVED AT NEW HAVEN COMMUNITY SCHOOLS AS A TEACHER, COACH, PRINCIPAL, COUNSELOR AND ATHLETIC DIRECTOR FOR 27 YEARS.
